Installing Kubuntu on a HP Dv9410US Laptop.

Does anyone have any pointers to installing Kubuntu on a HP DV9410US Laptop?. I've had it on there before but I've had issues sometimes when i lock the screen the pc will freeze, other times when i shut down it will freeze. to install I've had to have the nolapic option in grub and then when i get the Nvidia driver installed i've taken that out, If i dont do that option when it boots to the live CD i get the lava lamp effect (glowing screen with lines). Everything seems to work ok. I just get random freezes. Windows XP works fine on the laptop so i know its not the laptop itself...

    Does anyone have any suggestions
    Would be much appreciated
    Christopher

The system specs are as follows:
    AMD Turion 64 TL-56 1.8 GHZ x2 (dual core)
    2 GB of ddr2 667 (Dual Channel)
160 GB Toshiba SATA Hard drive 5400 rpm
Nvidia Geforce 6150 Graphics card (onboard)
    17" Widescreen briteview lcd
    Synaptics touchpad
    DVDRW w/ litescribe
    Broadcomm 43xx wireless card
Vista premium (came with, deleted and trying ubuntu)
    HP 1.3MP Webcam

I've found the dv9000 is almost the same as mine but with XP...
