    Mount Problem

I have Kubuntu 7.0.4 installed in Vmware player as second OS with WINXP PRO. I need to mount Windows partition and cd/dvd burner

In root shell consol „“mount /dev/hdc“ returns „No medium Found” and “mount cdrom” returns “cant find cdrom in etc/fstab or….”

Can somebody please check my Fstab file, I think the problem lies here, but Im brand new to Linux and would appreciate any help.

For the Windows partition, you don't have one. As far as VM is concerned you only have one OS. You could access via the network through samba.

Have you enabled the cd drive in the player so that it's available to the guest OS?

      Re: Mount Problem

Ive now solved CD problem (something dumb that I overlooked in Virtual player).
Next real problem is Internet access. In entering ISP details for a pppoe/ broadband connection (going through Linskys router and modem) in consol under “sudo pppoeconf”, my user-name wont enter into second “column” properly. Its first character appears immediately after “e” of “username”. When Ive gone through this process consol registers “Plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded” but no broadband connection appears in Network Settings (only connection here is normal "lan"-type) IP 192.168 1. 102 . Also Plog shows a Chap authentication failure . And last-but-not-least, am I missing a setting to force recognition of my WIN system?

As far as the computer is concerned, you're on a LAN with the rest of the world.

You probably need to configure your router now. Consult your manual for your router's IP address, then access it in your favorite browser. It'll probably ask you for a username/password, again consult your manual.

Of course, I'm assuming your router is that kind. What's the model?
        For external use only.

          Re: Mount Problem

Ive already configured router in the browser window but it still wont connect, not even direct through modem and Ive tried both manual and auto (dhcp) address. And WINXP connects no problem.
Chap authentication problem would seem to indicate user/password problem which goes back to the input of same in consol or?

When you installed your kubuntu as guest on vmware which networking option did you choose?
            Bridged or NAT?

              Re: Mount Problem

Original networks options Im not so sure of but its still configurable on drop-down menu. Options are Bridged, Nat and host-only…Bridged is activated.
Also, Im at something of a loss here….in WINXP I have lan and broadband connection. On “Network Settings” in Kubuntu should the equivalent not be eth0 and eth1? At the moment network settings only displays eth1
