XGL and Compiz again...

    XGL and Compiz again...

    Hi all
    I have Kubuntu 6.06, Nividia videocard (GeForce 6600...)
    So, I decided to try Xgl and compiz
    I have installed nvidia drivers and checked them. It works
    Now I have installed Xgl.
    And tried to replace X with Xgl.
    So, it works strange
    my polyester theme looks bad..
    Konsole started to work bad and buggy
    There is strange points between symbols
    Well, Xlg is in memory, so I decided to try compiz
    And.. and it doesn't start at all

    P.S. I have used two guides: from ubuntuforums and from compiz.net

    P.P.S I have installed the latest versions of Xgl, compiz, cgwd

    Do they move smooth? Whats your FPS? Could be an issue with OpenGL if you're gears are choppy.

      glxgears killed Xgl !
      this is my xorg.conf: (not all, just device part)
      Section "Device"
      Identifier "NVIDIA Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600/GeForce 6600 GT]"
      Driver "nvidia"
      Option "RenderAccel" "true"
      Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
      BusID "PCI:1:0:0"

      This is my kdmrc:

      ServerCmd=/usr/bin/Xgl -br -ac -accel glxbuffer -accel xvbuffer

      I have commented last line in /usr/bin/displayconfigrestore (#main())

      For now it is all

      And without Xgl (with just X) glsgears works fine and smoothly

      P.S. Please, show me the link to the freshest howto about installing Xgl in Kubuntu
      The ones, I have used, are not so fresh (spring 2006)

        You don't even need a how-to. Just get Automatix Bleeder. You can install Xgl/Compiz directly from their repositories now. Very easy to do, and it installs as it's own session.

          It installed me Xgl/compiz without errors, but... but
          glxgears still fails and compiz restart session

            When you say glxgears still fails, what exactly does it do? You might want to have Automatix Bleeder reinstall the nVidia video drivers as well.

              Installation nVidia drivers via automatix failed
              I had to return to drivers from www.nvidia.com

              glxgears gave me over 5000fps. Is it ok?

              Failing glxgears (with Xgl) is just restarting the Xgl session

                Hmmm 5000fps is more than enough. There might be something screwy with X. In your xorg.conf file, could you please paste your modules seciton?

                  I have fixed the problem
                  The error was in the last 3 strings (something about composite "off")
                  I should not add these strgings
                  So, after removing them, Xgl started normally
                  But I still have questions:
                  With X I have 7900 with glxgears
                  With Xgl I have only 3200...
