Saving edited X11 file

I have just attempted to modify my /X11/xorg.conf file (working towards using xgl and compiz etc). When I tried to save the edited file I was told I do not have 'Permission' to change this file. Considering I am the primary/admin user, whats going on.
I suspect it goes back to my earlier problem revolving around users and groups.?
