If you want to install proprietary ATI driver:

    Before you edit, BACKUP !

      Re: ATI Graphics

ATI has 5 million drivers and each one has 3 how tos that are not even remotely like the others. ATI drivers are junk - even the windows drivers that came with my card didn't work worth a toot. I had to download a driver from their web site to get it to work in windows.

You just have to try different drivers until you find one for your card. This is the one that worked for me:

Of course - when you use the wrong driver you have a complete bork on your hands. I never found a graceful way to recover from this, and installed Kubuntu 4 or 5 times before I got a driver that worked.

If you're fairly happy with your install other than the driver I'd suggest backing it up. In the repositories there is the program KDar. Quick. Simple. Best back up app I've ever used.

If you've already installed a driver that doesn't work with your card you might consider starting over from scratch, and make the driver the first thing you install after the updates.

I got a Nvidia card, much better 3D.
