Preparations before installing over existing dual boot linux?

Currently, I have Gentoo and Windows XP on my computer. I'd like replace Gentoo with Kubuntu and preserve XP. I have partitions for Gentoo, XP, common FAT file system, swap, and boot.

How should I proceed? Can I just format the gentoo partition with Kubuntu installation CD and then install it. And then modify grub? Or do I have to install grub too?

It should be straightforward - install using the alternate installer disk - tel it where to install / and swap - you don't need a separate boot partition. Grub should be installed automatically to your MBR

Thanks for advising the alternate installer! It was really easy to install!
