differences between apt and server repository

    Hi,

I just saw something strange with apt....
My source list point on http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com for dapper (main restricted ... everything)
Actually when I browse the repository I can find packages ( like the new kernel http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...-5.14_i386.deb) which can't be find by apt !!

    "apt-cache search linux-image" shows me only "2.6.15" kernels !!

Can someone explain me why ? I'd like to understand

    Hi,
this is my first post and I hope to be helpful (I am new in kubuntu world ).

Maybe before using the "apt-cache" command, you should update your local repository data:

    "sudo apt-get update"

    ciao

Pool holds the actual packages for all versions of (k)ubuntu
The packages you cannot see in apt are probably 'edgy eft 6.10' packages

Which packages belong to which version (release and architecture version) is determined by the Packagelist files under the 'dists' directory
