Dapper install problems on old-world mac powerpc g3

I followed the instructions in the diskimage manual for installing to mac powerpc g3. Went to the Debian Woody site, downloaded the linux kernel and ramdisk as instructed. Used BootX to boot, and was taken into a text-based Debian installer. I gave up when it came to partitioning because the installer couldn't find the disk drive I'm using for root (/dev/hde7) - it only saw the little partition on /dev/hda7, which I've been using as a /boot partition.

I'd really like to try this Kubuntu build, so if anyone can help ...

    Thanks!
