    Minor Kubuntu DVD-ROM Mounting Problem

    Hi,

I am new to Kubuntu, just having installed the Dapper last weekend. So far it works ok but the one thing super annoyed me is that it does not recognize my Chinese filenames and directory names for my DVDs.

It can recognize Chinese filenames at my hard drive... Isn't that strange? I have tried to mess around with the fstab but I have no luck. And I tried using sudo mount with iocharset=utf8 such as:

    sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdc /media/cdrom0 -o iocharset=utf8

But I still cannot see the Chinese filename in the DVD.

One last piece (probably the most important but I have no knowledge about this) of information is that the DVD is burned using a Mac machine. Will that complicate things in Linux? My Windows PC can't even read the CD...

    Thanks in advance!

I think your mount command is incorrect (but I may be wrong). I thought that the "iocharset" keyword was used only with unicode character sets, e.g. "iocharset=iso-8859-?", while the keyword for utf-8 is just "utf8". All of this stuff is filesystem dependent, though.
