    Two hard drives.............

I know this has probably been done, but I haven't tried it yet. I have an amd64 machine w/ a Radeon 9200 card running 64-bit Gentoo 2006.1 right now. The HD is a Maxtor 100GB ATA133. I would like to install Edgy 64-bit on a WD 250GB SATA that I have. Can I run both of these drives, and dual boot? Any HOW-TO links or advice would be greatly appreciated!
I'm aware that you can dual boot two drives, but can one be a SATA and one a ATA133?

    Re: Two hard drives.............

a complex question that i've had experience with...
i had a similar question, and i had to get a sata300 card to actually use the new sata300 hdd i bought.  (i had two existing ata hdds also).

short answer to your question:  yes.
    long answer:
in your case it could be easy, in my case, it wasn't.  installing the sata300 card/hdd was easy.  figuring out the correct jumper settings to get a system to boot with two ata hdds and a sata hdd; not easy.

i had enough of trying to get the bios to recognize all three hdds, so i then installed kubuntu with only one ata hdd and the sata hdd installed.  bad idea in my case.  i had to reinstall kubuntu in order to get it to "recognize" the other ata hdd.  (i now think i could have installed grub on the other hdds, but didn't know that then).  (in the long run, i just had to fool around until i got the correct jumper settings with all 3 hdds and then reinstalled kubuntu).

if you have a mobo with sata AND ata support, you're in luck.  you should be able to enable support for one or the other through bios.  (assuming one is already disabled).

as far as dual booting goes, i didn't have to do that, so....  i'd say do a search on the forum here for it and on google.
