I have a big sound problem.
I have a Nvidia CK8 Sound card, which is not playing sounds like it should. I am using Alsa Snd-Intel8x0.
I can play sounds from Gaim after a restart. Though often when i try to play an MP3 using MPG123 Amarok, or Kaffeine, the program will freeze and/or it will kill the sound system so not even Gaim plays sounds until a restart.
I have followed the "stickied" guide on the Ubuntu forums called "Comprehensive sound problem solutions guide". i have done everything there form using an alsa driver to compileing an alsa driver.
Sadly enough, nothing seems to work to fix the problem. I have played with the mixers (KMix and alsamixer) dozens of times, nothing is muted, everything is on full.
When running this command to test a sound from Gaim:
cat /usr/share/sounds/* > /dev/dsp
it usually works, but sometimes after trying to play an MP3, i will get this error:
bash: /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy
Edit: I just got Amarok to play the beginning of a file before it froze. I had it play Welcome by Matthias Ettrich, in which i heard Hello twice, both cut off a bit, and that was it...
I have specs for you...
I have an Emachines C3070 Dual boot system, windows +Kubuntu
This is now a nearly fresh install of Kubuntu.
160 GB IDE hard Drive, Kubuntu is running from a secondary 4 GB IDE Hard drive.
1 DVD+-RW and 1 DVD-Rom
512mb DDR Sdram
AMD Sempron 3000+ ~2 GHZ Processor
Nvidia CK8 onboard Sound
i have some output info:
First this.
output of:aplay -l
Output of:lspci -v
Please help, I really need sound, and an OS is just, well, incomplete without sound...
