    no audio

hi guys, I'm a newbie with linux and after I've installed kubuntu in my ACER 1203XV I don't hear any sounds...
Anyone know what is the problem?
If I try to play music with Amarok the program tell me that xine engine can't find any sound card...
    Thanx to all,

    Re: no audio

I have the same problem with a portable Gateway m520 under dual boot. Sound works fine in Win XP, but have not been able to get sound in Kubuntu under Amarok or anything else. Amarok does not give me an error message and the visual sound bar suggests that my MP3's are playing after I installed the proper drivers. I don't even get the usual system sounds and when I go into the sound section in control panel and click on the sound test button, I get nothing.

I had loaded Ubuntu originally and the sound worked fine.

Didn't find any sort of problem guide for sound in the Unofficial Kubuntu Guide so I tried the Ubuntu Unoffical Guide. It provided some suggested command line changes which I attempted with no success. It appears that the sound drivers in Ubuntu and Kubuntu are not the same.

Use the Automatix program and install MPlayer even if you normally use Kaffenne. This worked for me with the same problem. Now I have sound in both players with WMV and AVI.

Also, lots of codec help here:

Thanks everyone! I was able to download XMMS from http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages and get some skins from there too. The ones from Win Amp also worked quite well, just had to move them over to the skins folder, don't need to unzip first as XMMS already knows how to do this.

Also found lots of codec and plugin help in http://www.getautomatix.com/wiki/ind...u#Introduction and https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Re...74003fde7daed5

Got it all working no problem. Codecs, plugins, AVI, WMV, sound issues etc...

TIP: If using Automatix, don't try to upload too many packages at one time, just do like two or three at a time. You can always add more later on once Automatix is installed. Worked for me!

Thanks to all and please pass on this information to any others who are having codec, video sound or plug in issues.
