    Daily 3-31 - Installed Games Don't Show In Start/Games??

    Hi,

So I downloaded the current Kubuntu 18.04 64Bit LTS daily ISO and installed it.
I am in the process of setting up the system and also testing.

I installed some games using "Muon Package Manager",
but they are not listed in Start/Games(Games category is grayed out)?
(I am using traditional "Application Menu")

    How do I fix this?
    Thanks!

    Other issues:
    - Encrypting /home folder fails during installation
    - After installation is finished it does not say "Remove medium and hit [Enter]"
    - System Settings is pretty flaky(text disappears, unable to [Apply] changes, etc.)
    - Default system won't mount LUKS encrypted hard drives
(to fix run "sudo apt-get install libblockdev-crypto2" in Konsole)
    - And the above issue with "Games"

I'll continue after "Games" is working...

    Jesse

    "some games"?

Is it ok to tell us which ones?

I could try installing them (when I get back to my desktop), and see if menu items appear for them. Some packages are not set up with standard menu entries.

Another possible factor is that they may be added to the applications menu but not show up immediately - something I've observed in multiple versions of Kubuntu (though not yet in 18.04).

Checking after a few hours is not exactly a good solution but could narrow down the issue.
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

        Hi,

        Definitely an issue...
I installed "DOSBox", "Higan", and Linux "Steam" and nothing shown under Start/Games(Games category is grayed out).

However I found a work around:
I manually edited the Start menu and added "DOSBox" and saved and rebooted
and then all 4 games were listed in "Games" (I then deleted the extra "DOSBox").

Perhaps someone should look into this?
        Thanks!

        Jesse

          Ok,
So I installed current Kubuntu 18.04 64Bit LTS
onto both my netbook and thin client today...

Same issues when adding games("Games" in Start menu is grayed out).
Can someone fix this before official release?

              Hi,

It does not work in classic "Application Menu" Start menu widget...

It does not work on a clean install when installing games using Package Manager.
If I install using Discover it does work...
Something wrong with games in Package Manager with "Application Menu"...

sounds to me that the menu rebuild was missing from the post install step.

Fresh install from daily builds, full up to date:

Swiched to kicker (classic style K menu)
Snap-shotted install so I could roll back.

                        Install games mentioned via discover:
They appear in a games menu as shown
                        Rolled back

Install games mentioned via muon package manager:
They appear in a games menu as shown
                        Rolled back.

                        Install games mentioned via apt:
They appear in a games menu as shown

Sorry, but I cannot replicate your issue.

Yes that sounds right. Could be confirmed (or not) by restarting the PC after games are installed. If it is the case, however, it would be weird that Muon would only do so for the Games category though.

By the way - the preferred way to install full applications in Kubuntu would be via Plasma Discover. Muon is meant for installing needed individual packages. Still, installed applications procured via Muon should show up in the menu.

Same here! But I'm not saying the O.P. is wrong, as I can't reproduce. And I'm on Neon.
