    Recommended compositor settings

    HI all

I'd love to know what your favorite compositor settings are. I am using Nvidia proprietary drivers but I can't seem to get it right to not get issues with transparency effects flying off the handle. At the moment I deactivated compositor completely which seems to be OK except that all the pretty transparency tweaks are gone.

Actually, I am just seeing that I am using Nouveau. Maybe that plays a role?

Nouveau is generally considered to be pretty much a workhorse and I have used it a LOT with different distros.

But, on Kubu and Neon now I am actually use Xrender a lot sometimes OpenGL2

But I tend to run either really old equipment or really new equipment.

To that end, I do not have a 'favourite" compositor, I just use what works, and adjust for things like "screen tearing" etc

An important component of all this is MESA which is being used and is involved with Nouveau as you know Nvidia does not release information so everything has to be reverse engineered. Looking up MESA is an informative thing and you probably know all about it, the mention is for new folks.
