    Help configuring Cantata/MPD

So I set up Cantata for single user, point it to my music directory, and no problem: it finds my music collection, I'm playing music and can even control playback from my Android phone with the KDE Connect app. So far so good.

Now I want to try streaming from my computer to my phone using the MPDroid app, so I use Cantata to set-up a second profile, leave everything such as "Host" and "Password" as default, and again point it to my music directory, but this time no music files appear even after I click "Music -> Refresh Database".

    What am I doing wrong?

Here is a website that explains Cantada in more detail... Hope it helps.

Yes, I read that article before posting this thread, and it unfortunately didn't resolve my issue.

I'm wondering if I just don't have mpd configured correctly? But if that's the case then it seems to be me that Cantata shouldn't be working at all.

      Very confusing.

Do you have an active firewall? If so, have you opened port 6000

Ah... this got me on the right path:

MPD needs to have +x permissions on all parent directories to the music collection and also read access to all directories containing music files. This conflicts with the default configuration of the user directory where many users store their music.
... and then it offers several solutions.

At least it explains why the server isn't seeing my personal music library. Now to see if I can implement any of the solutions.

Success! Well, sort of... I at least got my library to populate with music files, and I can access them and control playback with MPDroid. Only problem is that I can't hear anything.

So on to the next problem.

Yes, and I configured it but obviously did it incorrectly. I got tired of messing around played some games instead. I might give it another go tonight.

                    Thanks for your responses.

Well, I've followed all the guides I can find, enabled everything in mpd.conf that was recommended and otherwise seemed relevant to me, and while I have complete remote control of the software through MPDroid, I have no sound output. My local user account can play audio just fine.
