Getting Artful with Zesty

I have noticed that elsewhere on this forum those with muon have been successful at installing KDE Frameworks 5.33. I did a search and found that it was now available on Artful. So I decided to launch Synaptic and change all the repositories to Arful. The only repository that did not work was http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa...anding/ubuntu/.

I have now downloaded all other items from Artful and my system it still working very well and Info Centre gives the following:



So I am looking forward to other Arful progress through this back door. I am only doing his on a desktop that I can do without. At the moment it is great to play with.

I have been very impressed with the stability of Artful and have never had any problems after getting updates which continue to advance this system. For those who want to take the plunge, the download page now has the Artful iso.

Plasma 5.9.4 with framwork 5.33 has been on Neon User Edition for quite a while now. Very, VERY nice!

Indeed it is! I unfortunately had a few problems with Neon which caused me to abandon it. I have not had any similar problems with Artful and all the applications that I use work great!

More News:

I have now found the release dates which are here for ubuntu. In brief the dates are:

• June 29 — Alpha 1
• July 27 — Alpha 2
• August 31 — Beta 1
• September 28 — Final Beta
• October 19 — Final Release

So it looks like I am well ahead of the Alpha 1. From the current flux of Ubuntu 17.10,

Details on the exact lineup of Ubuntu 17.10 features beside the desktop shell (which will be GNOME) are in flux. Early work in this cycle is to focus on integrating GNOME, working out which patches and app versions to keep, and so on.

I consider that Kubuntu 17.10 is well ahead because of no significant change in direction. This probably helps with providing a stable system early in the development process.

Artful is progressing very well and I have only encountered one problem with LibreOffice Impress version 5.3.3.2. The problem is that an inserted video gives a large Question and when played, I get only the sound and no image.

I am not sure if this is a problem with Artful or with this version of LibreOffice.

Although I am running Neon User Edition, it currently has Impress version 5.1.6.2 installed and I've tried both an mpg and an mp4 and they both run normally during the slide show. What's your version?

I already have installed the item highlighted in red on my system. I have also re-installed LibreOffice and also checked that all my multimedia packages are installed. I have not yet re-installed using the latest iso for Artful as I do not think this will change what I am getting.

I still get the question mark after doing all the above. What I get is:



This file has mp4 files which played correctly on the previous version of LO Impress. I am puzzled that others are finding different behaviour.

I am very pleased to report that Artful LO Impress is now working very well. Even the white flash before the start of a video is now not showing. This was particularly evident when starting with a video that is near black at the start. I t is unfortunate that the white flash is still present at the start of a video, as I tried LO 3.3.2 on a faster computer.
