Installing wine and wine programs used to populate the Application Launcher with sub-menus, items and icons. In 15.04 and 15.10 that no longer seems to happen.
The sub-menus and items can be added manually by using the Application Launcher Editor (right-click on the 'K' Application Launcher icon in the panel).
I have found 'gnome-exe-thumbnailer' which will extract icons from .exe files as pngs and these can usually be improved in Gimp. Then they can be associated with new Items and sub-menus added using the Application Launcher Editor.
The tree display of menus and items in the Editor then shows all the new sub-menu and item names and icons.
However, saving and testing the launcher shows all the added items and their associated icons, but only the names of sub-menus are shown: no sub-menu icons appear. Rerunning the editor shows that all the icons associated with new sub-menus have gone. This happens with both .png icons, at any size, and .svg icons.
Is it possible to mangle sub-menu .desktop files directly to overcome this problem and where are the sub-menu .desktop files kept?
