Best Free Video Editing Software For Kubuntu?

Hi,

I need to do some basic things with a large AVI video file.
Can someone recommend a great free video editing software that is compatible with Kubuntu 15.04 64Bit?
I need to take small sections of a larger video and save them as separate smaller videos.
I also would like to add simple fade in and fade out transitions to the separate smaller videos.

Thanks, I am using Kdenlive now.
OpenShot was freezing when cutting clips from 1.6GB movie file.
