I have a Canon MX870 printer/scanner that I've used successfully with many Linux distributions in the past, but for some reason KDE has always been a problem. This is a fresh 15.04 install, and I've installed the Gutenprint driver, the same one that works great with Ubuntu, openSUSE, Arch, etc. While it prints fine the Canon isn't recognized in either skanlite or simple scan. This isn't a wireless issue, as I'm connected via usb. Anyone know what I need to do?

Alright, it's been almost five months now, and I'm guessing that I've "stumped the band". If I may, I'd like to rephrase the question: Has anyone here been able to scan with a Canon all-in-one while using the KDE desktop? If so, how? I'd really like to give KDE a chance but I need a fully-featured operating system, something to use daily, and that means it must print and scan.
