    ARK Survival crash on Startup

I installed ARK from Steam (Yay) but it crashes every time I start it.

I have found other reports of the same problem and the one recommendation is to reboot. I've tried this but it made no difference. The crash report is always at the same memory address

    Any ideas?

I am of the opinion that the problem is that I only have OpenGL 3.1 support while this game needs at least version 3.2

    Code:
    tahaan@Komputer:/etc$ glxinfo | grep core
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.1 (Core Profile) Mesa 10.3.2
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 1.40
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
    OpenGL core profile extensions:
There is a PPA with newer GL drivers (but not for my release of Ubuntu, eg 14.04, here:

That's odd. It would seem to indicate that your OpenGL is needing to be updated. I'm also running K14.04 as my main OS.

This is the report I get on my Core-i5 (HD4600 graphics) system in K14.04:
      Code:
      rod@Core-i5:~$ glxinfo | grep core
OpenGL core profile version string: 3.3 (Core Profile) Mesa 10.1.3
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 3.30
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile
      OpenGL core profile extensions:
It seems I have OpenGL 3.3. I haven't done anything special (no PPA) to get this that I know of. I don't have a separate graphic card yet, I'm only using the in-built graphics in the Core-i5 CPU (I'm only a very casual gamer).

i would check that you don't have any updates before doing this but the Oiabf ppa worked great when i used to use it on my htpc (need the vdpau & vaapi decode)

        https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archiv...aphics-drivers
becarefull and be sure you know how to use ppa-purge incase things go bad ..

oh well stop being on the old stack :P ..
it used to work on 14.04 when i used it, i guess they only support the most recent releases .

If 16.04 were even remotely as stable as one would expect an LTS release to be I would move.

I'm finding Neon more stable. Some of its behaviors are not what I want but at least it is consistent!

try adding the backports kde ppa im sure it should make kde much more stable.. qt 5.6 really makes the differance. as all kde releases after the one kubuntu ships with need it . somewhere you can read my rant about 16.04 and why qt 5.6 matter for it .. but yeah lets just say we all knew that the version of qt shipped with the lts was going to cause some serious issues for kde.. and since canonical doesn't care about the kde desktop only their unity one they qt requirments are really only looked at for unity......

if you look in my post history you maybe can find it.. it was in a thread where the user was upset about how long kde releases were taking (or i wrote it and didn't end up posting it ) . the tl:dr version is that canonical doesnt care that kde works so they instead of targeting the LTS version of qt targeted the previous stable (the LTS was only out maybe a month or two .. by release mind you, but the qt LTS will get lots of updates that 5.5 series will not). And by doing this they basicly put this kubuntu LTS in a weird spot we can force qt 5.6 and risk breakage of repo apps that are built using 5.5 on the repos or not be able to upgrade kde..

Using the dated AMD proprietary 15.12 I am able to run Ark on K14.04

OpenGL core profile version string: 4.3.13416 Core Profile Context 15.302
OpenGL core profile shading language version string: 4.40
OpenGL core profile context flags: (none)
OpenGL core profile profile mask: core profile
                      OpenGL core profile extensions:

                      Qt: 4.8.6
                      Kubuntu 18.04 on AMD
