I have both Kubuntu 13.04 and a fresh installation of Kubuntu 13.10 on this laptop (different partitions).
In 13.04, no proprietary drivers are installed and the wireless works. In 13.10, a proprietary driver is installed and the wireless does not work (it sees the networks, but can not connect, asks for a password, does nothing, asks for another password...). I have tried removing the driver in Jockey, but when I reopen Jockey it is still installed and in use, I think this is because there is no FOSS driver in the new kernel (so the only driver is the proprietary one and it's installed/enabled by default).
13.04 was using 3.8.0-35 generic
13.10 is using 3.11.0-14 generic
I'd like to try using 3.8.0-35 generic with 13.10, and see if that works.
Will an old kernel work with a recent version of Kubuntu?
If so, how do I download that specific kernel with apt-get?
Many thanks,
Feathers
