    Amazon Prime

A Note About Hal and Amazon Videos. I coule not play Amazon Prime Videos even after installing Hal. I found this web site
    http://www.regx.dgswa.com/html/conte...lash-video-fix

    After I followed these instructions

    sudo mkdir /etc/hal/fdi/preprobe
    sudo mkdir /etc/hal/fdi/information
    sudo /usr/sbin/hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes
    rm -rf ~/.adobe

I could now watch Amazon Prime Videos

Yesterday's 13.10 upgrade broke Amazon Prime Instant Videos...AGAIN! Same old Flash Player update error message. The above fix no longer works because HAL has been removed and isn't in the repositories anymore. Anyone found a new fix?

Stopped working for me as well. Here is why:
Adobe Flash Player 11.2 will be the last version to target Linux as a supported platform. Adobe will continue to provide security backports to Flash Player 11.2 for Linux.
and Amazon Prime has been updated to a later version of Flash Player.

I doubt that Amazon will switch to a Linux compatible video player so I guess I will cancel my Amazon Prime. I used Amazon and its Prime features to the tune of around $6,000 so far this year, and over $3,000 last year. That's $9K that Amazon will never see again.

While not related to flash, I can still watch Amazon Prime Videos through my Logitech Revu box attached to my TV. So I will retain my membership.

          I just canceled mine.

I think it is crass exploitation that Jeff Bezos/Amazon can exploit FOSS & Linux to save MILLION$ in server licenses and not return anything to the community. Something as simple as supporting a Linux video player would be chump change to him.

While I agree with you, I never watched videos on my computer, so it is not a direct issue with me. And I will not forego the convenience of watching on my TV based on principle. I am not being critical of your decision, just an explanation of my position.

I was asked by Amazon why I was canceling and I told them what I wrote above, how I felt like Bezos was exploiting the work of FOSS & GPL coders without returning anything to the community. They "apologized" for not supporting Linux, of course, and then recommended that if I wanted to continue to view Premium Movies that I use RedHat 5 or SUSE 11 or Ubuntu 8.04. I responded by asking them why they didn't require Windows users to run XP SP1, or Win3.11.

My Amazon Prime subscription just expired a few weeks ago. It was working fine at the time. FWIW I use Chrome for Amazon. I wonder if their custom version of Flash is compliant more so than the 'standard', outdated Flash from the repo's?

My Chromium browser (from the repository) won't play Amazon Prime movies.

The trailers do not have DRM controls on them so any version of flashplayer will play them.

I installed Google's Chrome web browser and noticed this in its "aboutlugins" page:

I played musical chairs and disabled each, one at a time. I got the "sorry" msg with the first one disabled and the second enabled.. With second disabled and the first enabled I get past the sorry message but the stream never starts. Just a black window shows and the "pause" button indicating a stream. Watching KSystemGuard's network panel I noticed that when I stop and start the stream the panel shows that I get about 10 seconds worth of 1.2Mb/s streaming, and then it goes to 0Mb/s. Nothing ever shows on the screen.

I also installed HAL and tried FireFox with the

                          Code:
                          File: libflashplayer.so
                          Path: /usr/lib/adobe-flashplugin/libflashplayer.so
                          Version: 11,2,202,310
                          State: EnabledShockwave Flash 11.2 r202

but still got the "sorry" msg, so I purged HAL.

I heard an ad last night on TV in which Amazon was reducing its "Prime" membership price from $79 (or what ever it was) to $35 ... in order to lure in new customers.

I also heard they increased free shipping minimums from $25 to $35 (to drive customers away). Actually I think it is all planned to lure customers into Prime.
