Dear all,
I have a Dell XPS13 connected via a mini-display port+DVI cable to an external monitor. I have installed Kubuntu 13.04 and all is working well, EXCEPT that the resolution on the external monitor only mirrors the resolution of my laptop screen (1920x1080). I only see one "default" screen when I try to set it up (settings-> display, or kcm_screen). The max resolution of the external monitor being higher (1920x1200 instead of 1920x1080) the bottom part of the monitor stays black. I would like to clone the screens but really get the max resolution on my external monitor.
I have tried a few things, searched the web, no luck.
So basically, the screen is detected, but only one screen appears in the display settings, with the resolution of the native laptop screen which is lower than the one of the monitor itself.
Any hint, advice is most welcome. Thanks so much for any help you could give me!
[note that a similar set up worked well with a different Dell laptop = 4300 and ubuntu 12.04]
UPDATE: I am starting to think that my question is stupid. Since I am using a direct mini-display port+DVI cable the resolution I get is the maximum allowed by the graphics card. Before the setup which worked was using a docking station, and I guess that docking station could emulate a higher resolution (Dell docking station for latitude 4300). Am I right? Can someone confirm or disprove this ? (if confirmed, I would drop the post, if not I'll keep looking) Thanks
UPDATE2: just found this post on Dell XPS13 """Mini DisplayPort in XPS 13 ultrabook is capable of driving resolutions up to 2560×1600, commonly used with 30-inch displays". So I guess my question is NOT that stupid.
