Kwin crashes randomly when closing windows

Like it says, happens randomly and no set pattern but happens more with maximized windows.
Happens with all apps but I cannot get it to happen when running anything from a konsole (to get output when it crashes).

Anyone know of any known issues that might point me towards the problem?

64-bit kubuntu with intel hardware

Places to look for clues include ~/.xsession-errors and /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

I am unable to change the thread title but is it plasma that crashes, not kwin.

The problem is down to plasma-widget-menubar
