Dual Screen : Second monitor shuts off and on

    Hi Forum, Hi all,

I have installed (fresh install, not a upgrade) Kubuntu 12 04 yesterday and since then, I noticed something weird.
I have two monitors, configured with nvidia-settings in twinview. The problem is that everytime the focus changes between monitors, the second monitor always shuts off during one second and starts again.

If I'm writing an email in my thunderbird in the second monitor and opens a new tab in chromium in the first monitor, the second goes off and on.
It's very random, not everytime, but most of the time. I dont know if it's really because of the focus, it's just what I have noticed.
I can reproduce it with the focus 8 10 times per minute. (lets say every 5 6 sec !)

I already have all screen savers turned off, checked the bios (no reason because I had a Kubuntu 11 10 before without any problems with those monitors; but well anyway, i checked the BIOS!) , I already checked in power saving options...

Any idea please? Thank you all.

I am having the same issue with Ubuntu 12.04 on 2 seperate computers with 3 different video cards. All Nvidia. Are you running an NVidia driver?

Yes, I am running the NVidia [Current Recommended] driver. The problem is that I really dont know how to always reproduce it, it seems very random :-(

I am not having this problem with my 8800GT cards and dual monitors but there are known issues with the 295.40 drivers and this might be what's causing it. Try downgrading to an earlier version and see if it gets better. Otherwise, post more information like /var/log/Xorg.0.log and ~/.xsession-errors

Upgrading to the other driver in the driver installer seems to have fixed it for my work PC.

Did not try to downgrade the driver version yet. Will do it soon.
              Thanks :-)

For some reason, not all of your Xorg.0.log file is there - notably the parts concerning your video card. Please copy the entire log to a file in your user-space, rename it to .txt, and attach it to your next post (use the "Go Advanced" tab) just to see if there is some odd error in there.

Are you using a /etc/X11/xorg.conf file? If yes, post that too.
