SD Memory Card Reader not working on HP Compaq Presario CQ57

    Hello everybody!

I have a HP Compaq Presario CQ57 that comes with a SD card slot. I simply want my memory card to pop up in Dolphin when inserted, but this does not happen.
After having searched for [Solved] threads and found some others related to my problem, but the actions I took from those threads did not solve my problem, I decided to place my own thread.

My Distro is Ubuntu 12.04, installed from a DVD that came with a magazine called Linux Format, but I use the KDE interface (or Plasma...I think).

    Here's what I've done already:
    kdesudo kate /etc/modules
Then added to the bottom of this file:
    sm_ftl
    and restarted the system.

I'm still very new to Linux, so I would appreciate teaspoon feeding!

    Wayne

So when you open Dolphin you don't see your card on the left hand bar?

It's not on USB. It's a built-in PCI device that works perfectly in Windows 7!

                  Applications>System>Additional Drivers

or just open your menu and type Additional Drivers

also ,,,,,,with out the sd card plugged in open a terminal and type in
                    Code:
                    lsusb > usb.txt
and hit enter then plug in the sd card and type in
                    Code:
                    lsusb >> usb.txt
and hit enter now with the sd card still plugged in type in the terminal
                    Code:
                    sudo parted -l >> usb.txt
and hit enter now open dolphin and you will find a file named usb.txt in home ,,,open it and copy and past the text in hear for us to see if the system is seeing the sd card at all.

you should click the quote button at the top of the text field when you respond and paste the copied text between the quote tags

Have you tried just restarting your computer with the card in? That usually solves my problems.
