GTK apps in KDE are ugly again

Hi all.

One thing I have noticed is that my GTK apps (firefox, thunderbird etc) have reverted to being butt-ugly since upgrading to 12.04. I have installed qtcurve and set that as the GTK setting but it hasn't changed anything.

Any info to enable configuration will be much appreciated.

Try creating a file called ".gtkrc-2.0" that links to .gtk-3.0-kde4 in your home folder.

Has it always been like that in 12.04 or was it fixed up to a certain point? I know I ran into that problem in 11.10, but I have not tried any GTK app in 12.04 so don't know for sure how long the breakage has been around. I do use LibreOffice 3.5.1 on 12.04, and it looks just fine as of this morning.

[EDIT] I am curious because I ran my last update yesterday evening. If this is caused by an update later than that, I would rather wait until it has been resolved...

On my computers, I had to make the link to .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 -- but that's because I don't have the Gtk 3.0 engine installed.

my hidden file was .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 so I created the link to that file and it worked straight away

I think a bug needs to be filed somewhere because I've had to do this on a lot of systems lately. Possibly a problem with kubuntu-default-settings, I'm not sure...will investigate.

Oops! That was a typo on my part. Irelly meant to say 2.0 not 3.0. My bad.

I've been puzzling over this lately... basically, I need to maintain different .gtkrc-2.0 and .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 themes. The former I set via gtk-chtheme, the latter with KDE's systemsettings. The former applies to, for example, Handbrake and GIMP; the latter to, for example, Evolution and Ubuntu Software Centre. The former bunch of apps don't "theme" correctly with Adwaita, the latter only "theme" correctly *with* Adwaita. They'll also use Adwaita if .gtkrc-2.0-kde4 is deleted, so I might as well do that and purge kde-config-gtk until I have some other "modern", compatible themes. So far my Gnome-Shell's been getting all wobbly when I try anything other than Adwaita (or Radiance or Ambiance, IIRC, but I removed those because of the orange).

You could try xsettings-kde from the repos
