    Medibuntu is Here!!!

    I just decided to see if medibuntu was available as I saw a report that it would not be available until Beta 2. Well, to my surprise when I entered the commands
    Code:
    sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update
    medibuntu was installed and I can now play DVD's and have all the extra fonts as well as Acroread.

    I am beginning to think that Kubuntu 12.04 is now ready for production use.

    Three cheers to the developers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      One of the main reasons I use Acroread is that in cases where I have a large pdf file, eg 230 pages, it has a superior search capability. When I enter ctrl+shift+f, I get the search search window shown in the graphic. In this example I used as the keyword "skype" and the results are shown in the next attached image. Here, as well as listing all occurrences of the word, the context of the text around the keyword is shown which helps navigate to the text of interest.

        I've been waiting for Medibuntu to come through for Precise.

        Works great!

          For those wanting to play their DVDs, adding the Medibuntu repository and following the directions for Playing Encrypted DVDs doesn't appear to be sufficient. I had to install the package ubuntu-restricted-extras before Dragon Player would see and play the DVDs.

            As a matter of course, I install: libdvdcss2, libxine1-ffmpeg, w64codecs, non-free-codecs before testing to see if DVD's can be played . Over the years I have developed a text file for each distribution that lists all the extra packages that I install to get my system working. I would encourage others to do this as it helps speed up the bi-annual upgrade of Kubuntu.
