    Precise Pangolion pretty pithy preview.

Ya know.....I think that the WALLPAPERS are just butt UGLY!

Maybe if they would change the wallpapers to a somewhat LIGHTER tone, it might improve reception...however it is possible that reception outside the range of the towers might still fall off a bit.

If there are peeps out there who really believe, and I mean REALLY BELIEVE, that a Linux OS is only as good as the default Wallpaper it comes with, well, I don't want to run into any of them -- they have something a miss in the attic!

One of the first things that most people do after installing Linux is to 'customize it', and the Wallpaper is usually the first thing that gets the ax, no matter how 'pretty' it is.

        Hi guys,
nice comments but....Well, lets take this another step.

Surely all the gentle readers know the wonderful, light and airy papers for Mandrake/Mandriva?

Think of the attitude of the developers. Although I never really liked Mandriva/Mandrake I got the impression that the devlopers and other folk really....enjoyed the distro.

Remember when DSL had the bunker mentality and the artwork was always so.....SERIOUS.....

And Puppy Linux....now there was a happy go lucky bunch if I ever saw such a bunch...

But the folks at Ubuntu....now ..........how does the saying from the film go?

        Why so.....SERIOUS!!??

Although the devs said that the "classic" desktop would be available for a while....they also gave the distinct impression that everybody had better get on board....cause this is....SERIOUS!

        just a thought.

And, again...Don't like the Wallpaper - change it. Done. Fanito.

Really, the Wallpaper means so little with regard to the actual OS. Your "...lets' take this another step." Okay, so 'step two'. What do most do with the gift wrapping on their Christmas presents? Hmm. Let me see, uh, they rip it off the box to get at the gift? Yup. I think that's correct.

I've downloaded the beta of Precise Pangolion i386 (because it was designated for Intel chips whereas the 64bit was pointed to Athlons) and plan to install it and play with it through development.

Bti Locker encryption is not running, although it wastes 100MB of HD space IN FRONT of the OS. And after I boot into the LiveCD I will make a copy of Win7's MBR before I install it. Any other suggestions?

I wish they'd switch to the more generic x86-64 notation. "amd64" will run on 64-bit Intel processors just fine.

The Windows installer pre-creates that 100MB partition in case you decide you want to enable BitLocker at some point in the future. That was a lesson learned from Vista. Back then, people had all kinds of issues trying to resize partitions post-install so that BitLocker would work. The presence of this extra 100 MB partition shouldn't affect the usual procedure for installing Ubuntu in dual-boot fashion.
