    Firefox 7.0.1 crashes KDE 4.7.2

    The title says it all.

Firefox will randomly crash the desktop and revert to the shell screen.

I cannot pinpoint one single action. It happens randomly.
Sometimes right away after starting FF and clicking on a link.
sometimes when a few tabs are open.

    Anyone else see this?

    you should try this...

    sudo apt-get remove flashplugin-installer
    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo apt-get install flashplugin-installer

after finish, you must restart your pc and try suftting internet again

you should open your youtube and right click on your video and see settings..click at settings and you will see adobe flash player settings and uncheck the box Enable hardware acceleration...after that, you restart your firefox browser and good luck

Thanks for that, I'll try it although I don't see why flash should be involved. This usually happens whne I click on a link inside my joomla admin or gmail.

      Oh well we will see

I have almost the same problem....

Starting Firefox 7.01 after login immediately returns me to the login screen
No error message or anything.... simply returns me to kde login screen....

If i then login again and starts firefox... no problems.....

Yes, this appears to happen on PCs with Intel graphics, doesn't happen on NVidia.
            My HP dv6 is affected.

I use a dv6 as well. I thought the intel card was only used during boot and the radeon card was turned on after boot.

              Am I wrong?

My dv6 doesn't have a standalone graphics card, only on-board Intel.

Re: Firefox 7.0.1 crashes KDE 4.7.2

I have an AMD graphics card in my Thinkpad x100e and I get these random kernel panics, too. I can't understand the scrolling text, but I'm usually in firefox when it happens. I'm also using ubuntu with Unity on this computer because I couldn't get kubuntu 11.04 to work with the wireless card (while 10.10 worked fine, 11.04 did not, and I just didn't have the time--I'm hoping 11.10 kubuntu will correct that), so it's not just the kdesktop/plasma that's crashing--it's Unity as well.

I'll try using the flash-installer cleanup suggested upthread, but I'm getting ready to blow this thing away and load up kubuntu 11.10 anyway.

Same here. KDE 4.7.2 and Firefox 7.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu2. Firefox crashes KDE just after statup. No FF window even appears.

I installed kernel 3.1. no difference.

I think this problem is with Mozilla or Firefox. Not with Linux or Kubuntu. I have experienced this problem with firefox-7 [ever since I upgraded from firefox-6] in Win-XP environment too. I have not so far experienced it in Kubuntu 11.10 so far. Well, . . . . . . I upgraded from Kubuntu 11.04 to 11.10 only four days ago.

Please guys try invoking glxinfo from mesa-utils package. It crashed X too.
So it means it's not Firefox who crashes X - it's OpenGL drivers. (I use "radeon" and "nouveau" drivers for my dual-GPU setup)
I removed libglx.so from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions and Firefox and glxinfo no longer crash. Hope it helps you too.

P.S. You can't just remove libgl1-mesa-glx package since everything depends on it. And I was not able to configure it via xorg.conf - Disable "glx" did not work for me (GLX was loaded anyway).

What is the purpose of libglx.so file? And do removing this file have any side effects? I have the same problem as the others in the thread, but my screen just disolves in pieces.

                              This is what i get:

                              fintan@fintanws3:~$ glxinfo
The program 'glxinfo' is currently not installed. You can install it by typing:
                              sudo apt-get install mesa-utils
                              fintan@fintanws3:~$

FF still gives me a trip back to the login screen
