So some time last night after starting the computer I get an icon informing me of availability of the new shiny version. I decided to upgrade my 64 bit 11.04 online but for some reason (suspect something to do with the tiresome royal wedding) my connection was really slow and it was going to take 9 hours to fetch the frankly astonishing 1.5 GB of packages (It used to be something like 700 Mb in the good old days). So I left it to do it's thing and went to bed. This morning woke up showing 4 minutes remaining and asking whether to replace or keep some packages. Click on keep and 5 minutes later after reboot I have a new version. Everything working s before with all my widgets, wallpapers, etc, etc. I can hardly tell it's been upgraded but happy i'm not chasing upgrade 'mares thru CLI. Well done Kubuntu dev team.

Re: Credit where due: Smoothest upgrade Ever
It has not been my practice to go the upgrade route in the past, opting for a clean new install instead. However, this time I am going to try it. I have spent a lot of time getting Maverick to run exactly as I want. And I don't want to lose all that work. To me, Maverick has become the most stable release I have ever had since Hardy. I will wait a few days and monitor the board for issues before I make the move. I hope I have as good and experience as you did. Just to absolutely safe, I will make a complete backup of my Maverick first.
