Re: Black Screen After Graphics Card Update
Hey there, I got the same problem.
I upgraded from nvidia onboard graphics to radeon pci-e card HD5670.
I boot up to the point it shows the 5 white dots and then the monitor goes to standby mode.
FailsafeX does not work. StartX gives two errors:
(EE) failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0)
(EE) No drivers available.
It seems that mine is trying to load the nvidia drivers even though I uninstalled them. I'll probably need to edit xorg.conf or menu.lst or something. Weird thing is I can't deactivate the onboard vga. The bios has no such option...
Try booting in recovery mode, and type: startx
Maybe it will give you some useful information to start working with.
good luck!!

I worked on a system like this once and if I remember correctly, the BIOS auto detects (or should) any graphics cards that have been added and then turns off the onboard graphics accordingly.
If you can get to the recovery console, try the commands given here. They might help.

Re: Black Screen After Graphics Card Update
The bios has an option to specify the primary graphics adapter if multiple are present. onboard, pci-express, pci.
Code:sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Unfortunately I searched around and ended up editing xorg.conf before reading your post. This caused me other problems.
I don't mean to highjack this thread, so if you could help me I would really appreciate it if you posted in the thread linked below. Thnx in advance!
