    Having trouble playing dvd's.

    Hi,
I am new to kubuntu but have migrated from PCLinuxOS. I am having trouble playing dvd's. I have installed tons of codecs and still have encryption errors when trying vlc, xine and dragon player. I tried to add medibuntu yo my repos but get an error about the key being unauthorized. Can someone help?

My machine is a Athlon x 2 2000mhz 3 gigs ram 1tb hard drive. I had no trouble with dvd playback in PCLinux. What am I doing wrong?

    Thanks,

    Penny

    Re: Having trouble playing dvd's.

For solving my problems I use the following ubuntu guide:
    http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Maverick

It has an index which gives a number of options for installing the medibuntu repository as well as a host of other software. Hope this helps resolve your problem.

        Also read this page.

        https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

And after you have installed all of the software don't forget to run the script:
        Code:
         sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread4/install-css.sh

          Hi,
Thank you all so much. I do have DVD playback now. Apparently The Last Airbender has some really new encryption and just wont play. I guess I will have to use DVDFab and hope for the best.

          Thanks,

i know this is an old thread, and if its been covered somewhere i missed then an Admin can delete this ,,,but if anyone is having video play back problems after installing all the codecs. mediubuntu, etc i fixed my issue by using VLC and changing the video drive to X11 and now everything from DVD to WMV play great in VLC, I haven't figured how to get the other players like Kaffeine, kMplayer etc to work right but its better than noting!!
