    [SOLVED] Nvidia driver problem!

    Dear Friends, after the upgrade of 10.04, my nvidia BETA driver () every little and while restarts and finally my pc crashes and lose all my work done till then.. Tried to install restricted drivers via jockey but no alternatives show up. any tips?

    We need to know which card and driver you're using. Do you have the option to not use a beta driver? And how did you install the proprietary driver?
    This method (#2 on there) has never failed for me.

      I have an acer 5920g with a 8600M 256MB card. In kubuntu 10.04 I had installed the official for the NVidia.com site by running the sh NVIDIA.run thing. after the upgrade to maverick, the huge nvidia logo has a small beta driver underneath. Since then, I get random instant freezes and the nvidia driver with the logo reloads and then I keep working on my kubuntu. every 3-4 times that happens, the pc freezes. While booting up, sometimes pc also freezes when it has to load the graphic driver. In 10.04 I had no such issues. I want to share with you that I also tried to apply a different driver version, by using jockey from the additional drivers option but it doesn't give me alternatives, only the current one as it says and it's working but not supported. I have amd64 version. thanks a lot dear friends

        I'm assuming you're using the 8600M GT right? Are you using the 260.19.12 driver?

        Have you re-installed the driver using the aforementioned method since the upgrade? I strongly advise you do so. And, when you say that your pc crashes , do you mean a full reboot?

          yeah I have the version you said my friend. My pc just freezes and does nothing. I only can press power button for some sec to turn it off. I will try to install again the driver and god help us

            Coming up from other linux distribution and looking for simple solutions to install nvidia graphic and BCM wifi cards (on a hp 2713 ca laptop), ubuntu 10.10 is presently the distribution that gave the simplest solution to the installation of these drivers. Once installed, It offers installation of proprietary drivers including the nvidia driver.

            I did finally found that option on kubuntu, under kde>search, using the term driver. I imagine that you have to remove the previous driver or to blacklist it, and then install the kubuntu driver.

              The problem was solved, after installing the latest drivers fron nvidia.com from shell, by running the known sh NVIDIA.run command
