    (SOLVED) Add/Remove Programs

Is there an easier way to install additional software in Kubuntu?
I'm using Kubuntu 10.04 and am trying to install a couple of extra programs/software. In Ubuntu it was pretty easier with the Add/Remove & Synaptic. But I just love the way Kubuntu looks, works and acts, but I get stumped and overwhelmed when trying to install software.

    TIA

If I may suggest something different:

    Alt+F2 -> konsole

    Code:
    sudo apt-get install PACKAGE_NAME
Enter the password you login with when prompted.

That probably wasn't what you were looking for, but really give it a try some time

Kubuntu also has the Adept and Kpackagekit package managers. Personally, I prefer Adept in the GUI and apt-get on the command line. You can also run Synaptic in Kubuntu, if you prefer.

        Hi there Telengard
I prefer using a package manager because I'm not always sure if I'm typing the correct name for the program. But thanks anyways

          Hi jglen490

Adept, that's what I was looking for. I think my brain has somehow frozen, thanks for thawing it out for me ;-).
Kpackagekit gets me so confused, I just end up closing it.

          Cheers

Synaptic. FAR superior to KPackageKit. From the console:
            Code:
            sudo apt-get install synaptic
It will appear in K > System

              Re: (SOLVED) Add/Remove Programs

I always thought Adept was much cleaner looking and easier to navigate than Synaptic, but either one is great.

BTW OP, glad you found what you needed

                You guys rock.
And then I still get the odd fool that asks me why I am so proud to be a Linux-user . . . just look at the support I get ;-)

I concur although if you live in NZ you need all the help you can get being so close to Oz.

By the way Adept is not supported anymore and was replaced by KpackageKit so Synaptic leads the way in what is now a two-horse race (well - sort of)!

But just because Adept is unsupported now, doesn't mean it doesn't work anymore. It still kicks compared to KPackageKit and even Synaptic (but only for the looks, 'cause Synaptic has more features than Adept). It even tells you what to do when packages are broken!
