After a failed update attempt on 14.04 32bit i decided to go with a fresh install of 18.04.1 64 bit. formatted the drive and reinstalled (but that's another story).
i managed to get most of the items working and restored them from backup (data files, reinstall of apps, firefox...), but a few more difficult ones still remain to be resolved (wine, dosbox, printer test)
so kids put some pressure on me to get dosbox working and i've managed to get the dosbox game launcher (DBGL) running as well as dosbox. after a bit of though i decided to set them both up fresh (using brand new install and all settings.
) the default resolution on the monitor is Wide SXGA+ 1680 × 1050 and this gives a nice clean picture on this monitor. when runnign dos box i used the commands to run the game full screen and stretch it. and it works well just like it did before in 14.04. however when i exit dosbox the desktop is all messed up. resolution is wrong and picture is off offset (i basically see the clock along with the bottom right corner of the destkop up in the top left corner). leaving the session and logging back in gives me the lowest screen resolution possible and i change that back to 1680 × 1050 in system settings.
how would i keep the default desktop resolution when exiting full screen dos box? why is KDE not setting it back it? it used to work before. it works in every windows versions from XP to 10, so why not in Kubuntu?
window behavior is also odd. say i leave dosbox at default setting. game resolution will be 640x480 or so when started and in a tiny window. now i press alt+enter. the window buttons (maximize, minimize, status bar etc.) dissappear, yet instead fo the app going full screen it moves to the upper left corner and continues in small resolution while i can see plasma desktop behind it.
