You can learn a lot on the Kubuntu forums. We welcome your questions
and we'll do our best to answer them. There are a few things you can
do to make sure you get the best information available.

    * Search before you ask. You are not alone. Many of the problems
that you are facing have happened before to other users. Some of
them have come up on these forums before. You can save yourself
a lot of time by using the search function to get an answer to
your question without even asking. How's that for service?

    * Ask in the right place. You wouldn't look for bread in the fish
store. Don't expect to find an answer to a question about
wireless networking in a forum about Installing Kubuntu. Look in
the Network Support forums. You'll find a rundown of all the
forums on this site, later in this post. For now, just remember
that the experts on a particular topic, hang out in the forums
    devoted to that topic.

    * Ask informed questions. If you put up a post saying something like
"I tried to install this app and it didn't work." The answer you
get is going to be "That's too bad, what happened?" You can save
a couple of hours of turnaround time by describing the problem
clearly in your first post. On the other hand, if you are asking
a question about a problem with your video display, you don't have
to describe your hard drive, or your ethernet card. Do include
information about relevant hardware and software. Do copy any
error message that you saw when the program crashed or the
hardware didn't do the right thing.

Here's a list of the forums on this site and what they are about:

Announcements: This is for information that everybody needs to
see. The categories are: Adminstrative Announcements (facts about this
site) and Kubuntu Announcements (about new software, security patches,
and bug fixes pertaining to Kubuntu).

Documentation: this is where you'll find HowTo's, configuration
information and links to other sources of help. The forums in this
category are FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions),
Customization/Optimization (tricks for tuning your system just the way
you like it), Kubuntu User Testimonies (both good and bad), Bugs (A place
to find workarounds to current bugs in Kubuntu).

Kubuntu Discussion: This is the main part of the site.

Each of the distributions have forums for:
Installation and Boot- How to get up and running
Software Support- Which package to use and how to make it work
Hardware Support- How to get your keyboard, mouse, video, etc. to work
Network Support- Find information about ethernet, WIFI, Bluetooth, or Samba
Processor Specific Support- How to make things work on AMD64, or PPC
Other Desktop Support- Find help for questions on Gnome, XFCE, etc.
Kubuntu Transitioners- Questions regarding the switch from Windows or Mac OS to Linux.
Everything Else- This is for questions that don't fit into the other categories.

Be warned, though, you're better off figuring out whether you've got an installation, hardware, software or networking
problem rather than just posting in the "Everything Else" Forum.

Newbie Support: Yes, new Linux users, we have a forum just for your
questions. The Kubuntu community is all about spreading the news
about Linux, Ubuntu, and KDE. The advantage is that if you ask your
question here, we will try to provide a more user-friendly step by
step walk-through than you might find in one of the distribution
    specific forums.

General: This section has a group of forums for Miscellaneous Linux Info which is split into using Kubuntu for program development, gaming, and artwork. Then there's Off Topic: This is divided into four sub-forums; Distribution Showdown (comparing Kubuntu to your previous distro, what do you like or not like), Classifieds (Got something to sell?), Geek News (topics of interest to tech types) and Anything (The name says it all.) Finally there is Kubuntu Forums Feedback: which contains sub-forums for Site Improvements (post any changes you would like to see added to the site), Forum Ideas (ideas for new Forums to be added to the site), and Dynamic FAQ (answers to previously asked questions regarding the site).

We hope this tutorial has helped you gain a better understanding of how to use the Kubuntu Forums. Thanks for trying Kubuntu and as always any comments or questions pertaining to this site can be posted in the Kubuntu Forums Feedback section.
