unable to create cd from download

Hi: i down loaded kubuntu 6.10 etc. to a folder.i also downloaded
infrarecorder to the same folder.when i run infrarecorder.exe an
    error message comes up:

infrarecorder failed to scan scsi/ide busses.
make sure system is properly configured.

i hit ok and the infrarecorder screen comes up.i select
kubuntu from the name and choose actions(burn image).i
get a screen but the ok is grayed out.i know that i am
fouling up but i cannot figure out how.
any help would be appreciated. thanx.
also i am confused as to which file i should burn(kubuntu/infrarecorder).

    windows-xp.lots of storage /1g ram etc.etc,

Re: unable to create cd from download

According to wikipedia infrarecorder is a free CD burning application for windows. The error message indicates that either you do not have a cd burning device, it's not properly setup in windows or you are missing permissions to access it. IIRC you need administrator permissions in windows to access certain hardware, so make sure that you have them. If not, start infrarecorder as administrator.
Have you ever successfully burned a CD with your computer?

How did you burn them? If you have some other program for burning cds, try that.

I burned music and data cd's using sonic.i tried burning an image with
sonic and it did burn it.i then put the cd into my other pc and it started to boot and i got the start or install menu.it checked the cd for errors and that was fine.when the cd started and was loading the kubuntu a screen came up:
I/O error reading boot cd:reboot.the I/O error was:
          loading isolinux:disk error 80,ax = 4200,drive 9f.
is where i am at now.thanx.

Sounds good so far (except the io error of course). How did you check the CD for errors, using the option on the CD itself? Or using the md5 sums?
If the md5 sum is ok, I'd burn another CD.

Just a quick note about burning iso images. Make sure you use the lowest speed possible when burning or gliches can occur. I always burn at 1x.

thanx alot.burning another cd was the answer.i have two other problems.

1.when working with the cd,and i sign off,the system does not reboot to windows(also happened with a downloaded knoppix) but NOT with knoppix cd from linux magazine

2.i need to show my harddrives and desktop(as in windows) on the kubuntu desktop.any help??

Not a problem(yet) but how good is the install to hard drive?as you may have surmised i have two machines and want linux on one and windows on the other.i will uninstall windows on the machine that i will put linux
                on. thank you.
