NO !!! - Do not try to "convert" this file system, unless you want to get rid of "all and everything" it contains!

Instead, include the file system in question in "read-only" mode to your operating system (- further reading).

You have been using the explorer for kubuntu, konqueror. The reason you cannot see the files on your ntfs drive is because that drive is not mounted. If you follow the instructions in the link provided by penguin.ch they explain how to go about mounting your ntfs partition. Once you have mounted it you will then be able to view it in konqueror (at whatever location you chose to mount it).

            this is my problem

Open Konqueror and tpye one character: /
In other words, a forward slash. JUST type ONLY that. In the dropdown you will see all of your directories on that drive. Whoever told you to go to your home directory was telling you only 10% of what you need to know.
Try typing this into Konqueror: /media/hda1
There is no "explorer" view exactly like in Windows. (Okay, someone will correct me and say Open Konqueror, go to View, go to Show Navigation Panel, click the Root folder icon, expand the Media icon in the left pane, and you will have something sort of like Explorer.)

For Arabic language you need a localized build of the OS. Try here:
            http://www.mail-archive.com/doc%40ar.../msg05524.html

The DVD looks like it is trying to display filenames in a langauge that the font cannot display. In other words, you have a default font set up that cannot show the file names, so it shows what you see. Is this is your install disk, then I don't know..!

The kopete and kmail apps crashed. What you have is a bug report tool popping up.

            Hope some of this helped...
I see you are experienced in Windows. It is my experience that when you compare a task to Windows, you will be told that Windows and Linux are very different. When you complain that things are very different, you'll be told that they're not really all that different. It's a toss-up. Some things are the same, like the keyboard shortcuts for cutting and pasting. Some things are different, like installing software. Whatever you're told, just remember that it probably took you a while to learn Windows, and it will take you a while to learn Linux, too.

Not really: Linux as an operating system is complete different to any Windoze "OS" you may know. Period.

But (!) in an attempt to ease things up for those "converting" from Windoze to (any) Linux, some developers have started to implement "Windozisms" on Linux systems (which, from my point of view, is a questionable move, but that's a different story ...).

                Amebaid,

to get you started in a useful way, I'd recommend an "one app at a time" approach:

First and foremost, make friends with the file manager (by means of these docs), and leave aside all other apps, or else you're bound to feed the chaos you're trying to clear up.

At second, learn how to handle the console ("Konsole") - which you will need in order to take the help we are trying to give, so to speak.
