Re: How Do I Install a Printer

The former penguin.ch, now UnicornRider, solved the issue. Here is the solution...
To cut a long story short: in order to get things going the right way,
you would have to change your system's default shell - which may cause
severe trouble if done wrong (!) - as follows:

    # sudo mv /bin/sh /bin/sh.orig
    # sudo ln -s /bin/bash /bin/sh

With this done, the installation is supposed to work flawlessly ... if
this is going to fail (which I do not expect to happen), it's "Samsung
support time", finally ... but be that as it may, please do not forget
to "restore default" prior to rebooting the system:

    # sudo mv /bin/sh.orig /bin/sh
    # ls -l /bin/sh
    [blabla] /bin/sh => [/bin/]dash

Re: How Do I Install a Printer

i almost didnt get anything on your last repllys link... your last line broke my brain to half ok ok it was your intention to do so thats why you put the "8)" at the end jajajaja

        ok back to the problem
i got an hp deskjet 3535 installed it fine under edgy eft 6.10 wanted to print and it did until the half of the printing job... it was a pdf that i copied to openoffice since my papers arent actually letter (in py there are no standart letter paper go and figure)
i canceled the print job, pressed the button (it has only one) on the printer to spit the paper out... all fine

but when i try to print again the only button of the printer didnt stop blinking, turnig it of no help, unpliging the usb and power of the printer no use, all back to the blinking, restarted cups print server, the printing line (dont remember what it was called) restarted my pc, kept blinking

when i put paper back into the printer and press the button it will start printing the crap i canceled
but the cups server isnt even started there wasn't even the usb pluged in... so this is realy strange to me

3 month ago i still used winxp and sometimes the same happened but im using kubuntu now i got more control over things i can do to fix this error but dont know how

i have no clue on debbuging or sending the info you need so please be comprehensive

          > Nakrull

What you encountered, is a feature of the printing system, by no means a bug ... but what happened?

You issued the command to print a document by means of your printer - thus prompting your system to prepare the relevant data for the printer (also known as "spooling"). Subsequently the preprocessed data were transfered to the printer queue, an intermediate bearing, to be finally sent to the printer, causing the latter to actually spit out what you were waiting for ...

In short: "killing" the printer is far from being the same as removing a pending job from the system's print queue

Re: How Do I Install a Printer

i actually didn't want to kill it but the light went out (not so safe in paraguay)
after starting the system again there was no cue
the printer just started-up blinking the usb was still unplugged

now that i have a clearer view of the issue
how do i get rid of the pending already sent to the printer data so i dont have to waste ink or paper?
there must be a way of purging the printers mem or something like that at least

i will google something about it

            many thanks

Re: How Do I Install a Printer

This sounds like a hardware problem to me. Therefore, please take a look at the "troubleshooting" section of this product manual and/or the manufacturer's according web site for further advice.

Re: How Do I Install a Printer

i just got the same printer and had a similar problem, the difference being that anything i printed came with an error sying the job was stopped.
a workaround i found at http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...amsung-ML-2510 suggested using the 2150 drivers, which have so far worked with no problems (the recommended ones didn't work, but i switched to the footmatic + gdi drivers)
