I have a HP pavilion laptop that I would like to put linux only on. Does linux support laptops well or not? What are some of the problems? Oh I want to put Kubuntu 6.10 on it.

Re: Does Kubuntu do well on a laptop
Kubuntu CDs come in different varieties. The desktop CD is a LiveCD which can be tried without installation or affecting your Hard Drive. Why not try it!
"The desktop CD allows you to try Kubuntu without changing your computer at all, and at your option to install it permanently later. This type of CD is what most people will want to use. You will need at least 192MB of RAM to install from this CD.""A problem well stated is a problem half solved." --Charles F. Kettering

Re: Does Kubuntu do well on a laptop
If you can install it to the hard drive without hosing your existing setup, that is what I would recommend. The live is a good way to check out the desktop, etc, but I have never had good luck getting all of my h/w to work from a live CD. I have Edgy on two of my laptops with vastly different h/w and both work great. If your laptop is very old or very new, you may have to work through some issues, but yours sounds current without being bleading edge. I think you will be pleased.

Re: Does Kubuntu do well on a laptop
Yes.
We have set up laptop "doolees" [that ran/run and still function!] with Dozexp/98 and Ubuntu, Edubuntu, Kbuntu [5.10/6.10], Morphix, SlaX, KB, DSL, and Knoppix so far. We have also tried a pile of other LIVE! distros.
We like Kubuntu the best for day to day general use.
