I've been getting slightly annoyed with my old laptop running KDE as it's far too slow to be of use. ARGH! I read about IceWM recently and wondered whether this could be a way to speed up the thing? Is it feasible to get it running on top of Ubuntu as KDE and Gnome do? Has anyone tried it. Is there any advice you can give to someone wanting to give it a go. Should I chuck the laptop into the abyss?

Re: window managers... IceWM?
I had a similar problem with getting Kubuntu onto my old Sony C1VE. Very surprised at how easy it installed after I disabled the framebuffer for the install.
However many of the dialogs couln't be viewed with the resolution available 1024x480, so I has been ditched (actually reinstalled original ME and gave to my wife ).
I toyed with the idea briefly of putting a different window manager on it, but I like KDE, so perhaps time to get yet another laptop...
Can anyone suggest a good brand that Kubuntu installs cleanly on? Not too pricey.Blog: Tasty Tidbits
