Amarok won't start

Sometimes when I try to start amarok, the icon bounces for a few seconds, but then goes away without amarok's coming up. I see

Rarely, if I kill all these processes, amarok can then be started. But usually not.

What is going on and what should I do?

I used to have the same problem with amarok all the time. I figured it out though. I think that what happens is if amaroK doesn't close cleanly, it leaves the collection scanner running.

I didn't actually take the time to find out what process it is, I just rebooted, and remembered never to close amaroK uncleanly again. I think if you run sudo killall amarok && sudo killall amarokapp, that does the trick with newer versions of amaroK.
