Ok Heres the problem hope someone can help out I have a established Kubuntu system on the systems hardrive right now and I am wanting to upgrade to a 200gb harddrive

the 200 gb drive already has a fresh install of dapper on it could I be safe in just backing up /home and replacing one the new drive? If So How can I go about doing this?

Also the default setup is from the cd Any help Thanks in advance

I'm not sure I understand your situation exactly, but I can tell you a few related things.

    1. You can create a separate /home partition even if you don't currently have one:

    2. You can also back up an entire installation and restore it using tar:

    3. You can copy an entire partition image:

basicly I am replacing a harddrive and the person doesnt wanna lose things like+ passwords bookmarks saved in firefox pictures on the desktop etc so I thought instead of doing the whole harddrive image since he does have a dvd burner just cd I might br able to get away with the /home

I just want to move to a bigger harddrive But a few problems are the place I am doing it only has a cd burner so no dvd can be use to burn a backup or anything like that so what I thought bout doing was install a fresh install on the new hardrive then move the /home over to the new drive since if I understand right it hold all the configs firefox passwords, bookmarks etc if this is possible I might be able to get this onto a Cd-R unless another easier way is possible
