Getting rid of desktop icons for smb shares

I've set up network and mounting of my file servers' shares without problem, but one problem remain. When the shares are mounted, each share get an icon on the desktop. Since I have a bunch of file servers (~10 TB total), this becomes a bunch of icons i don't need on an otherwise clean desktop, and I want to get rid of them.

Now, you'll probably say 'Configure desktop', 'Behaviour', 'Device icons' and uncheck the Samba entries. Well, I've already tried that, and it had no effect. Restarting the window manager afterwards did not make any difference.

It's obvious my KDE-fu is not strong enough. Any ideas?

I just hit the same issue. Did you find a solution?

I remember there was something about the difference between /media and /mnt
and that one of these directories will automatically load an icon on your desktop.
      I believe it was /media.

In anycase there's a KDE setting that hopefully can help you.

right-click the desktop and select "configure desktop"
select "Behavior" on the left vertical tab then "device icons" on the right horizontal tab.
uncheck those you dont want to appear on your desktop

      hope it helps
