Capture a segment of Video from DVD to video file?

I know this might be a common question, but my googling has got me absolutely nowhere. I have a DVD that has a scene I'd like to record and save as a video. I was using Kaffeine and noticed it had a record button, but when I attempted to record, it errored out saying no plugin was available.

Is there an option to record a specific scene from a DVD or some other media file? If not, then what would be the best setup for ripping a DVD, say to DivX, and then editing the video file to cut out a specific scene?

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

K3B can rip and encode to AVI but it a little unreliable. You will Have to down load some extra packages to make it functional.

There is also dvd::rip. It is a little confusing and difficult to work.

K9copy is another one available but it just keeps crashing for me. I have heard other people used it with no problems,
    ~$sudo make me a sandwich

Look in Adept for AcidRip. I'm afraid I don't have that much experience with it, but I used it once to capture a scene from a DVD (for personal use only, of course )
