OK, in the newsagent, a linux journal is giving a DVD copy of ubantu 6.10 and edgy is also 6.10 is it basically the same thing, and if not how different is it.

I tried both Ubuntu 6.10 and kubuntu 6.10
personally i prefer Kubuntu....Since i come from XP, i find Kubuntu little easier.
A friend of mine worked on both ssytems and he said Ubuntu is little better for Internet/LAN use. But he suggested me to start with Kubuntu.

As far as I know, the main difference between Kubuntu, Ubuntu, Xubuntu, etc. is the desktop environment that each comes configured for.
Kubuntu is Ubuntu with KDE
Ubuntu is Kubuntu with Gnome
Xubuntu is Ubuntu with XFCE (good for really old machines, but not as many bells and whistles)
you can switch by using Adept to install ubuntu-desktop, or kubuntu-desktop, etc.
Keep in mind that if you install any of these, you will still have you original desktop environment on you HD, taking up space.
If you can spare it, though, try it for yourself -- Linux is bout choice.Comment
