Sound in Kubuntu 6.10

I've noticed that unless I make use of Kubuntu's sound system in a timely fashion it becomes inoperative. Why does this happen and what can I do to stop this As of this moment I've been restarting the computer and then moving the slider from the "mute" position...

GOTO K>>System Settings>>Sound&multimedia
Under sound system>general tab>auto suspend

Try this and see if it helps.

To check or not to check... this is my question. I saw this option but didn't know what to think about it. You are saying NOT to "auto-suspend"
