How to play DVDs in Kaffeine

When I load DVDs into my DVD drive to be played in Kaffeine, it always pops two messages.

    1. the source can´t be read, maybe you dont have the right for this, or....

    whats that

    2. No plugin found to handle this resource. (dvd:///dev/hdc)

    and no plugin for MRL

    whats that again

What do I need and how should I do so that I can play DVDs?

Re: How to play DVDs in Kaffeine

              I think if you uncomment

              # deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy-backports main restricted universe multiverse
              # deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy-backports main restricted universe multiverse

              so as they are

deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy-backports main restricted universe multiverse
              deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy-backports main restricted universe multiverse

may help you, you could also do the same to,

              # deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy universe
              # deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ edgy universe

              # deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu edgy-security universe
              # deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu edgy-security universe

@claudfoot, you probably need to add the universe multiverse repo's.

I use synaptic, where you can just open settings/repositories and tick untick the box, or add/remove etc, in adept you can just right click on the entry, and select enable/disable whatever you want, or you can do it the manual way through the console/terminal and edit it by hand, but I prefer the easy gui way.

                see this
System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager -> Settings -> Repositories and then click Add. Check the Community maintained (Universe)' and Non-free (Multiverse) boxes.
I dont have the (administration) @ system unless I am looking in the wrong place?

Re: How to play DVDs in Kaffeine

This is by far the easiest way.

ALT+F2 to get a run command and type:

kdesu kate /etc/apt/sources.list and click on run.

Remove the '#' in front of the lines that start with deb.

Open Adept and click on fetch updates and then look for the package.

to play DVD's you will need to install
                    libdvdcss2

i get my media codecs/libs from
                    deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ sarge main
                    deb-src http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ sarge main

ok I finally got the extra codecs downloaded and installed but I still get this message when trying to play a dvd:
                      The source can't be read.
Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't contain data (e.g: no disc in drive). (Error reading NAV packet.)
Do I need to reboot the system to install the updated codecs

                      Nope rebooting didnt work
