i have downloaded kubuntu and i want to burn it on a dvd but for some reason it wont burn i do have a cd/dvd burner. do i need to use a cd or will a dvd work too

You have download an ISO file.
Which program did you use the write to the DVD/CD?
You might have written the ISO file to the disk, not the directories and files in the ISO file.
You need the program that can open the ISO file.
The ISO file is something like a zip file.
When the data writes the a CD/DVD it opens the ISO file up and write the directories and files that are in the ISO file to the disk.
In Kubuntu I have used K3b to write to the DVD/CDs.
Open K3b then select the ISO file. It should start the Burn CD Image window
click on Start to write the a CD/DVD
In Windows a Program like Nero will write the ISO in the same manner.
